So now that my Run Analysis/support theory is up, it’s time to finally tie in something I feel is important. And since I delayed this post for so long, I’m going to tie this into the final part of The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, tying in Butterfly to Save Me.
The song Butterfly undeniably plays during V and Jin’s parts during the On Stage Prologue, and I feel this is something that any BTS fan or ARMY can turn a blind eye to. It isn’t until now that we have the full version of the song and not just snippets of it. Furthermore, even though it doesn’t have its own video (it might in the future, please BigHit). I’m going to use my thoughts to support my theory that I slightly touched on in my prelim review of Run and Analysis alike.
Originally, as my On Stage Prologue analysis went, I supported the theory that Jin and V are the only members alive and V kills himself in front of Jin. Now, touching on Run a little bit, I don’t believe V died at the end since he’s seen standing up in the water at the end of the video. Run, for me, actually debunked my previous theory and the tone of Butterfly now supports it:
Jin, in fact, is dead (perhaps by suicide) and the other members are alive in his remembrance.
In my view, Run dropped too many hits of Jin being with the members, but not being there. Butterfly, and this is what I think, sounds like a song of trying to convince someone not to commit suicide (but perhaps they do so anyway). In reference to all the videos up until this point, it worked for V, but not for Jin.
There are certain lyrics in the song that bring the idea to life. I personally have dealt with convincing someone not to take their own life… It’s scary. You know what you’re saying is truthful, but you have no idea if the person is really understanding what you’re saying.
Don’t think of anything
Don’t say anything, not even a word
Just give me a smile
I still can’t believe it
All of this seems like a dream
Don’t try to disappear
Sometimes, the person who is committed to ending their life can come up with a multitude of reasons to end it. Their health isn’t going well, relationships between friends, family, and others is failing, an event happened in their life that completely devastated them… the list goes on. It’s actually quite difficult to get them to listen to you with the negative thoughts speaking louder to them in their head.
Will you stay by my side
Will you promise me
If I let go of your hand, you’ll fly away and break
I’m scared scared scared of that
Will you stop time
If this moment passes
As though it hadn’t happened
I’m scared scared scared I’ll lose you
In a way, you think of what you can say or do that will help them and not trigger them to push them closer to the edge. You can say a large sum of comforting words, but the wrong one might set them over the edge.
Generally, the layout of my thoughts are on display here. But now to connect with this Save Me.
While I feel that Butterfly was a song on side of talking someone out of taking their own life, Save Me is from the point of view from someone who is considering ending their life.
They (in the broadest sense of the term) claim that people who are suicidal will display signs of pleading for help, but they’re not always direct in asking for it. In their mind, they may think they’re inconveniencing someone because they don’t want to make their problem someone else’s issue. There’s subtle pleas and cries asking for help which they will hope someone will notice. I know because I have been in that “dark place” times before in my life.
I want to breathe, I hate this night
I want to wake up, I hate this dream
I’m trapped inside of myself and I’m dead
Don’t wanna be lonely
Just wanna be yours
Why is it so dark where you’re not here
It’s dangerous how wrecked I am
Save me because I can’t get a grip on myself
Another turn on this song, if we apply it to the theories of BTS, it can show the inability to cope with loss the members feel in losing Jin.
I knew that your salvation is a part of my life
and the only helping hand that will embrace my pain
The best of me, you’re the only thing I have
Please raise your voice
so that I can laugh again
Listen to my heartbeat,
it calls you whenever it wants to
Because within this pitch black darkness,
you are shining so brightly
Of course, no one can return from the dead, but it could be seen that losing Jin causes the six other members to break and in a sense “call out to him”. This can easily loop around to Jin being where the other members are, but not quite there. As my theory before, the eldest isn’t really there, but is in ethereal form to watch over those he left behind. This is why I feel Rap Monster’s section is important and powerful.
Thank you for letting me be me
For helping me fly
For giving me wings
For straightening me out
For waking me from being suffocated
For waking me from a dream which was all I was living in
When I think of you the sun comes out
So I threw away my sorrow
(Thank you. For being ‘us’)
It’s tricky because even though the two part series and Young Forever has answered, we don’t any answers on the theories or how all of this ends. We’re left with BOY MEETS WHAT and an Young Forever anthem. We can only hope it’s really not the end and we’re all provided with some sort of real closure.
